Betika Paybill

The Betika M-Pesa paybill, the account-number format people get wrong, and the deposit safety rules that matter more than the number itself — because money sent to the wrong paybill cannot be recovered by anyone.

Updated · The Natybet Desk

Our registry records Betika's M-Pesa paybill as 290290, with the account number field set to: The word BETIKA, or your registered Safaricom number. Confirm it on the deposit screen inside the Betika app before you send any money. That check takes seconds, it is the only source that is current by definition, and it is the one habit that prevents the expensive version of this mistake.

Money sent to the wrong paybill is generally gone. Natybet cannot recover funds, trace a payment or credit an account — we are not Betika and we have no access to anyone's account.

Natybet is not affiliated with Betika. This is an independent guide written by us. We are not Betika, we do not operate Betika, and we cannot access, credit or recover any Betika account. Never enter your Betika PIN or password on any page that is not Betika's own site or app — including ours. For account problems, contact Betika directly through their official channels.

Before you send money, every single time:

How the deposit actually works

Betika deposits run through M-Pesa Paybill, the same mechanism you already use for utilities. There are two routes and both end in the same place. The first is from inside the app: choose deposit, enter the amount, and confirm the STK prompt that arrives on your handset with your M-Pesa PIN. The second is manually through the M-Pesa menu — Lipa na M-Pesa, then Pay Bill, then the business number, then the account number, then the amount and your PIN.

The in-app route is safer for one specific reason: the paybill is filled in for you from the operator's own system, so there is no opportunity to type a number that came from somewhere untrustworthy. If you are going to deposit manually, at least read the number off the app's deposit screen first.

The account number field is where deposits fail

Kenyan operators do not agree on what belongs in the account number field. Some want your registered Safaricom number. Some want the brand name typed in. For Betika our registry records: The word BETIKA, or your registered Safaricom number. Confirm it in the app anyway.

When a deposit “does not reflect”, this field is the most common cause, followed by depositing from a phone number that is not the one registered on the betting account. Both are recoverable through operator support with the M-Pesa transaction code — unlike sending to an entirely wrong paybill, which usually is not.

Why the WhatsApp paybill scam works

The scam is simple and effective. A message circulates with a paybill and a plausible reason: a promotion, an account upgrade, a “verified agent”, a bonus that needs activating. The number belongs to the scammer. Because M-Pesa transfers are instant and final, the money is gone before the confirmation SMS is fully read.

The defence is the same in every case and it costs nothing: never take deposit details from a message. The operator's app is the only place a paybill should ever come from. This is also why we publish only paybills we have verified and tell you to confirm even those — a publisher repeating a stale or wrong number is doing the scammer's work for them.

Withdrawals and the verification trap

Deposits are the easy direction. The friction shows up at withdrawal, and it is almost always identity verification: an account opened under one name, an M-Pesa line registered to another, or documents never uploaded. Operators are obliged to verify identity and the moment they enforce it tends to be the moment a meaningful payout is requested.

Complete verification when you open the account, while it is a chore rather than an emergency, and make sure the name on your Betika account matches the name your M-Pesa line is registered under. That one alignment removes most withdrawal problems before they exist.

If a deposit goes wrong

Find the M-Pesa confirmation SMS and keep the transaction code — it is the only thing that makes a trace possible. Check the paybill, the account number and the sending line against what the app shows. If all three are correct, contact Betika support directly through the channels published on their own website, with the transaction code and the time of the payment.

Do not contact anyone who approaches you offering to recover the money. “Recovery agents” who appear in comments and groups after people post about lost deposits are running the second half of the same scam. Nobody can reverse a completed M-Pesa payment for a fee, and Natybet cannot recover funds under any circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Betika paybill number?

Our registry records Betika's M-Pesa paybill as 290290. Confirm it inside the Betika app or on betika.com before you send anything — that is the only source that is current by definition, and confirming takes a few seconds.

What do I put in the account number field?

Our registry records the account number as: The word BETIKA, or your registered Safaricom number. Getting this field wrong is the most common reason a deposit does not credit, so check it on the deposit screen in the app before sending.

My Betika deposit has not reflected. What should I do?

First check the M-Pesa confirmation SMS: was the paybill correct, was the account number correct, and is the phone number you sent from the one registered on your Betika account? Those three cover the overwhelming majority of failed deposits. If all three are right and the money still has not appeared, contact Betika support directly with the M-Pesa transaction code. Natybet has no access to your account and cannot trace or credit a payment.

Someone sent me a Betika paybill on WhatsApp. Should I use it?

No. Never send money to a paybill, till or phone number that arrived in a WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook or SMS message, no matter how official it looks. This is one of the most effective scams running in Kenya. Open the operator's own app, read the paybill on the deposit screen, and use that. Funds sent to a wrong recipient are generally gone — Natybet cannot recover them and neither can anyone else acting on your behalf.

Does Betika charge for M-Pesa deposits?

Standard Safaricom paybill charges apply according to Safaricom's own tariff, which changes from time to time and is published by Safaricom rather than by us. Some Kenyan operators refund transaction charges as a promotion — Odibets does — but you should confirm the current position with the operator rather than trusting any figure on a betting blog, including this one.

Can I deposit to Betika from someone else's M-Pesa line?

As a rule, no. Operators match the depositing number to the registered account, and a deposit from an unregistered line is the classic cause of funds sitting unallocated and of withdrawal problems later. Use your own M-Pesa line, registered in your own name, matching the name on your betting account — this also prevents verification failures when you eventually withdraw.
